oh so sleepy

I know I know, if I'm so sleepy why the hell am I posting so early in the morning. I'm at Mr & Mrs L-K's place and was the first one up. So I'm all showered and except for having to dry my hair, pretty much ready to go. Everyone one else, on the other hand is still sleeping, which is fine with me, as I need to ease into my day a bit.

I spent the night at their place hanging out with them and Matthew and their friend Patrick in from WV. We ate pizza and watched "Bowling for Columbine". If you've never seen it I suggest going out and renting it. It is a great movie. I think I liked it better than "Roger & Me" but that might have something to do with the fact that I was 13 when "Roger & Me" came out & I didn't fully grasp the gravity of the GM plants in Flint MI closing. I was 13, all I wanted to do was go see New Kids on the Block.

I have some news on my & aunt is not very good at this point, but I will not post about it until I hear the full story of what's going on. I want to thank all of you for your thought and prayers, a girl couldn't ask for better friends.

On a good note, I'm going away this weekend to the country (somplace in bumfuck VA) with my best guy pal Mike & his sweet baboo Craig. I'm looking forward to it. It'll be my last "hurrah!" before classes start on tuesday.

Speaking of school. oh. my. god. I opened the crappy school newspaper yesterday to find this full page add for concert with Jason Mraz (with whom I've become obessed, not in the stalker way, but can't stop listening to his album way) and Guster on monday evening. So I bolted to campus and prayed that there were still tickets available. I bought two not knowing if I'll be back in tiime monday to go or if I could even find someone to go with.

Well!! (Chatty for being so sleepy aren't I?) I asked sweet Matthew if he wanted to go and the response was "FUCK YES!" Mike said we'd be back in time, for me to go. I'm wicked excited!!

Have a great day!! (For some people I know it's their second to last day before going to FIJI!!!!!)

good and bad

Yesterday was both a good and bad day.

I got a morning wake up call from my Mom and normally I love them, we've been having really good talks lately so I was excited for her call. Then I noticed that she wasn't sounding so good. It wasn't a social call but a "there might be a problem" call. She had just gotten off the phone with her youngest sister (my favorite of Mom's siblings). My aunt had gone in for just a plain ol' physical and they found five tumors on her liver and one on her pancreas. She's going for a biopsy on tuesday, but my Mom doesn't think the results are going to be good. Now, if you know my Mom she's the one who really does not worry until she finds out all the details, but yesterday she sounded really worried. So if you could all say a prayer for my aunt, I would be most appreciative.

On a much more pleasant note, I went to see Howard Dean at Cherry Hill Park down the street from my apartment. I ran into some friends of the Marthas from Meeting and spent my time with them and their friends. I went to the rally with my support leaning towards Dean. But after hearing him speak, I decided that I really want him to become our next president. I was impressed with what he had to say about all the things that are wrong with the current administration and his ideas and plans to fix them. I bitch and moan about how I need to get more involved in what is going on in my community and so I'm going to do what I can to support his campaign. Because if Bush wins in 2004 we're in major troube.

There was a man at the rally who was wearing a shirt that said "If you're not completely appalled at what's going on then you haven't been paying enough attention." I thought that was such a great shirt.

Have a great afternoon, enjoy the weather what ever it may be. And don't forget to tell your loved ones how much you love them.

*I don't really want to be the queen*

This weekend was busy and relaxing.

On saturday morning Chris took me to the IKEA up in College Park. OH MY GOD it is SOOOOO nice. It's a lot nicer than the one in Woodbridge. The layout's nicer and everything's so NEW!!! It must have been the fastest IKEA visit in history, we were in and out of there in under a half hour.

Chris didn't want to get sucked into shopping so he pretty much ran to the office furniture section & helped me pick out a desk. I saw two desks but I wasn’t too crazy about either one of them. Chris & I split up at one point & he found the desk that I wound up buying. It's the part of the new line called Jerker. What a great name for desks, but I'm sure it means something completely different in Swedish than in American English.

We got back to my place & Chris lugged the box up to my apartment for me, poor him, it must have weighed a hundred pounds. He couldn’t stay to help me put it together but offered to come over next weekend to help put it together.

I of course was too impatient to wait that long. After he left I ripped my room apart so I could put the desk together and arrange everything to make it all fit.

Because I didn't have anyone helping me put my desk together, it took me about an hour and a half to complete it, there were a couple steps where it would have been helpful if I had someone helping me, but overall it was pretty simple. Getting my room in order was another story. That took about four hours. My poor cats were all freaked out, as there was stuff everywhere and it looked like a tornado had gone through my room.

I really like how it’s arranged now, much better than how it was before, my room looks a lot bigger than it did. I have my sleeping area and a corner study area.

Sunday was very low key, I was sore from my saturday activities so I lounged around the apartment and did a bit of grocery shopping.

School starts up two weeks from tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to this semester, all my classes are requirements for my major and my minor but they’re fun classes for me. Senior year here I come!!!

*harumph!*

Happy Friday!!!!

The power outages of yesterday made me appreciate something that I think we, including myself, take for granted. I think it's a reminder as well that we need to give thanks for the little things that make life so much easier.

I talked with my parents yesterday as soon as I found out that power was lost in most of NY and amazingly enough they weren't affected. They said that the surrounding suburbs had been hit and were amazed that they didn't lose power. (For those of you who don't know, I grew up in a suburb of Buffalo, NY with the lovely Seneca Indian name of Cheektowaga [Cheek-toe-wa-ga]) My brother and his family, on the other hand in Rochester, were without power. I also spoke with the Marthas and they are fine, just chillin' and enjoying each other's company.

I heard from the boy, briefly, tuesday evening. He said he wanted to get together, but I haven't heard from him since. I don't get boys, at all. If they change their mind about a potential situation with a girl, why can't they call up and say "I changed my mind."?? Instead of leaving one hanging in bewilderment. We even talked about pet peeves when it comes to dating and I mentioned that was one of mine. I'm a big girl, I can take rejection, but jaysus don't play games!!

So, I am writing this whole thing off. It was great for what it was, but I deserve better. *harumph*

Tomorrow, come hell or high water, I am going to IKEA. I really need to buy a desk before the semester starts. I came to the realization that I need a separate space to do school work. I can't do work in the living room, I get too tempted by the television. So, I'm going to rearrange my bedroom and make a study space. How everything is going to be arranged is beyond me at this moment, but it will get done!!

Groove

Was in Buffalo for the weekend for my cousin Manny's wedding and my nephew Anthony's birthday. I got back yesterday afternoon and I'm having a hard time getting back into the groove at the office. No one is here and my hallway's really quiet. One would think that it would make a good work environment, but it's a bit too quiet.

The wedding on friday was a lot of fun. It was the first time in over ten years that all of my first cousins on my Dad's side were all together. And it's funny, we haven't seen each other in ages, yet it was like we just saw each other the other day. My sister & talked about organizing a family thing for us cousins, it's just wrong that we don't keep in better touch with some relatives.

So the wonderful thing that happened last week monday, I met a boy & we went out to for drinks which then led to dinner which then led to some really really good booty (it broke the year and a half drought). I haven't heard from him since then & I don't think I'm going to. I was obsessing about it before going to Buffalo, and being in Buffalo was a good diversion. It also allowed for me to do some thinking about it all. If all it was was that one day, then that's fine. If something more comes from it, that'd be fabulous, but it's someting that is out of my control as I have no way of contacting him. So I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I had a dream the other night where I was driving in the District, it was late at night, raining and I couldn't see very well. I felt like I was driving very very fast but the speedometer showed that I was going about 20 miles an hour. I was driving down a narrow street in the Georgetown area, and for what ever reason throngs of people are walking in the street instead of on the sidewalk. I had to do all I could not to run them over, although I was going slow, I didn't have very good control of the car. I stopped at an intersection and hit the car in front of me, not hard, but enough for me to panic and for the driver to be really really pissed. He got out of the car, takes off these crazy bolts from the bumper and inspects them using a jeweler's magnifying glass and informs me that if the name on it has been scratched off he's going to kick my ass.

I couldn't figure it out for the life of me, but then my sister told me to check out the dream dictionary I have. I checked some of the main symbols and it makes a lot more sense. But before I give some insight into it, I want to know what your take is on it.

Something really really amazing happened last night. I'm not ready, just yet, to post about it. But some of you already know what it is. I just hope that it'll be something that I will be able to post about, with great joy in the future.

Had lunch with the Marthas today. Since I'll be at my cousin's wedding this weekend, I won't be able to help them move, so it was our goodbye lunch. But it's not really good bye, because I'm going to go visit them at the end of September or beginning of October before school totally kicks my ass.

Love to you all.

Was a very good weekend. Soraia had a small gathering saturday evening. Was a lot of fun, very chill. I finally met a bunch of people she's told me about, so it was nice to finally put a face to the name. Later in the evening a bunch of us went into Adams Morgan to partake in the nightlife. We went to a couple different places and they were either too hot temperature wise, or there was no one there. Finally we settled at Bossa for a little bit, had a mojito and watched the crowd. A couple of us went back to Soraia's and chilled out there late late late into the night. I crashed at 4:00am, but I guess everyone left around 5am.

Amazingly enough I woke at 10:00 fully awake. (I did go to bed early last night, 'though) Soraia & I chilled out and went to see Swimming Pool at the Balston Mall. I didn't know much about it before hand other than that it was a psycholocial thriller. Oh my gosh, it was sooo good. I can't say too much about it, otherwise it'll give too much away. It's sexy, suspenseful, and very well done. I highly recommend it.

I didn't make it to work today, the late night saturday totally hit me this morning. So I stayed home, watched bad tv & did three loads of laundry.

ARGH!!!

I just found out that Dar Williams is going to be in town TOMORROW night at the Merriweather Post Pavillion. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I of course am not going because I didn't know she was coming and because I have a prior commitment. I looked at her tour schedule for the rest of fall and she's not going to be anywhere close for me to go. Damn Damn Damn
