Lisa Duggan spoke last week on campus regarding gay marriage, unfortunately I was unable to go (damn work!), but
The Nation has her article on it. Not everyone may agree with what she has to say, but it sure will get the reader thinking about the whole idea of marriage.

And here's another piece, this one's by my advisor, Robert McRuer. I haven't read it yet, but knowing him it'll be interesting to say the least.
Little Things

As some of you know I recently read Gender Outlaw: On Men Women and the Rest of Us by Kate Bornstein for my Sociology of Sex and Gender class. Well, in her book she lists her email address stating that if you have questions to email her. So I did. And today I received a response to the questions I had on the current state of the transgender "movement" and gender politics. I cannot express how excited I am that she wrote back!!

Change of Plans

So after much thought and research I've decided against getting a new computer. Instead I'm going to upgrade from Windows 98 to either Windows 2000 or XP. The computer tech at my office said he'd do it for me so I wouldn't lose all my precious files that need to be saved. And I'm going to get a CD-DVD reader/writer. I mean that's all I really wanted to do anyways, well and be able to go wireless... which I should be able to do, too. I might have to have more memory put in, and if I do that I'll have to send my computer to Dell. I had them replace the keyboard a while back & if I break the warrentee sticker... well, that'd be bad.

So with all the money I will save, Niels and I are going to go to Philly for a weekend away. Now I'm not really a fly by the seat of my pants gal, but I'm definately not plan plan plan either. So when we discussed it last night at dinner our different styles of planning definately showed. He wants me to talk with Stacy about the city (neither of us have been there) and the what to visit, where I was thinking along the lines of just going up and winging it. I'm more concerned of HOW we're going to get there, not really what we're going to do. We balance each other out, which is a very good thing. I can get anal retentive about one thing & he can be that way about another aspect of the trip. If we were both anal retentive about the samethings, it would be badddddd.

George Bush is a fucking moron. But I think those of you who read my blog already know that. He makes me so angry that I can't even write a level headed coherent response to his idiocy.

Weddings in San Francisco

Justin sent me this link. It's an awesome idea, I just don't have the $$ to participate.
Random Thoughts for a Friday Afternoon

I love diet Pepsi with two slices of lime.

Metrosexuals confuse me.

Knitting sucks all the moisture out of my hands.

I really need a nap.

And I'm totally in love with my boyfriend.
Friday Five

When was the last time you...

I don't own a car.

4. enough sleep?
About two weeks ago.

5. ...backed up your computer?
Well I tried backing up my laptop & it sucked up all the memory... so I'd have to say never.

So Sleepy

I'm so tired. But it's my own damn fault. I got sucked into knitting last night & didn't go to bed until 11:30. Needless to say getting up at 7am, just wasn't not fun. I am sure if I closed my eyes & put my head on my desk I'd be out in about 1.5 seconds.

Piece of Shit

A couple weeks ago Soraia was over and needed to use my computer. She asked if named my laptop, and I said, no, but if I did, it'd be called Piece of Shit. I know it's a strong term for my poor computer, but it's so damn old (4 1/2 years which is 100 in computer years) that I just can't deal with it anymore. I wasn't going to buy a new computer, but after tonight, I think I'm going to cave and ask Justin to help me pick out an Apple. I currently have a Dell, but am looking to switch sides....

Niels & I watched Signs last night; I've had it from NetFlix for godknowshowlong, so it was long overdue to be viewed.

Wow, was I disappointed. It started off with so much potential, but then, it fell flat on it's face. Which is a damn shame because I really like M. Night Shalyman. *sigh* Perhaps I was too tainted by the bad reviews I've heard about it and couldn't go into it unbiased.

Speaking of Niels, he got me the CUTEST Hello Kitty stuffed toy for Valentine's Day. And knowing how much he loathes HK, I'm really really impressed and excited. I think I squealed with delight when I opened it. Yes I am a dork.

New York with the Marthas (Two Marthas for one, double the pleasure, double the fun!!) was so awesome. I got in friday evening (first venture on Greyhound) and we had dinner and sat around and relaxed for the evening.

Saturday we went to Queens so the Marthas could go shopping in Jackson Heights and then to Bombay Harbor for the best Lamb Saag I've ever eatten. After relaxing there for a bit we ventured to visit Spyder at the comic book store and did some wandering around Times Square. We went into the Hello Kitty store and I managed to walk out of there without buying one single item. I was very proud of myself.

On sunday Martha A & I ventured into Chinatown to meet up with Spyder. We went to P&S Fabrics on Canal Street for yarn for me & Martha & knitting needles and Stitch & Bitch for me, Spyder bought some thread for bracelets.. I picked up some nice green chenille yarn to make a scarf for my Mom and some gray wool yarn for Niels' scarf (He wanted black, but they were out of black yarn. How can you run out of black yarn?!) Afterwards we all met up with my cousin Mike for some dim sum in Chinatown. I have no clue where we ate but it was really good. After stuffing my face with delicious and sometimes mysterious food, it was off for Bubble Tea. I had never had it before, but Spyder raved about it, I figured I should try it. I couldn't go for the cold tea so I had Ginger Bubble Tea. Whooooweee was it SPICY. I meant to order Ginsing w/Honey, but said Ginger instead, me bad. But it was still really good, it just took longer than normal to drink a cup of tea because it was so spicy. After a chilly walk through Chinatown and parts of SoHo we made it to Toys in Babeland, a very classy toy store for adults. I bought Niels some bath salts and lip balm called "Pussy Pucker Pots - Strawberry Snatch" flavor. hehehehehe what a HOOT!! Subway'd it back to the apartment and spent the evening knitting.

Monday was a leasurely morning knitting with Martha A until it was time for me to head to the Port Authority to catch the Greyhound home. I was looking forward to seeing Niels and my kitty cats again, but hanging out with the Marthas is so comfortable that a part of me was sad to leave. I also like NYC a lot more than I expected I would, now I am tempted to move there....

Well, I must go get a bagel before I passout from hunger. I hope you have a wonderful wednesday. Stay warm, don't let The Man get you down. Love to you.

For some reason, which I cannot explain, my iTunes REALLY likes Elvis Costello. I like Elvis Costello, that's why he's on my iTunes, but I don't like him as much as Sporty (my iTunes) does. Sporty plays (actually tries to play, I override his decision a lot) Elvis almost every other song. Sporty needs a talking to...
New York City!!!

Yeah, I want to move to New York.

Will write about my fabulous trip later this afternoon... must get some paperwork off my desk.

NYC Here I Come!!

In 14 hours I will be boarding a Greyhound bus and be on my way to New York to visit the Marthas for the weekend! I am wicked excited and a bit nervous. The whole never been to NY before, finding my way to the Marthas... new experiences make me a bit nervous. I'm a creature of habit, I admit it. I like knowing that I know how to get where I'm going.

Have a safe, wonderful, Valentine & Presidents' Day weekend.

Love to you.

Gay Boyfriend

This is SOOO funny!! A classmate sent it to a bunch of us. It'll take a while to load so be patient. You'll need Quick Time to view it.

Big News!

Massachusetts High Court Rules to Mandate Same Sex-Marriage from today's Washington Post online.
Recurring Dream

I've been having a recurring dream this week, last night I actually had it twice. It's really driving me nuts and my normally good dream dictionary hasn't been of much help. I'm hoping that someone may be able to help me.

I'm with my parents and they're taking me to the airport so I can catch a plane someplace (it always changes, last night it was Arizona). They think that we have time to make a couple stops at some shops as they're looking to make purchases of one sort or the other. While we're shopping I notice that time is going faster than the think it is and pretty soon it's 20 minutes (it's always 20 minutes) before my flight is supposed to leave and they're still shopping. I start to panic and tell them that we have to leave RIGHT NOW otherwise I'm going to miss my flight. They don't understand why I'm so worried. And I'm all "MY FLIGHT LEAVES IN 20 MINUTES AND WE'RE 20 MINUTES FROM THE AIRPORT." They keep telling me I'm overreacting and there's lots of time, all the while I'm getting more and more worked up about missing my flight. I'm so upset that I somehow wake myself out of the dream.

Any takers?

Weebl and Bob

This is really really disgusting, yet I can't stop laughing. The creators of Weebl and Bob are twisted twisted blokes.

Guilty Pleasures

I'm a dork. I admit it, even though the test at Anastasia's website says that I'm only 30% geek. I don't think they asked enough questions. Because my sweet boo just informed me that he's 54%. And well, both our numbers shoud be higher.

With that said my guilty pleasures purchases came in today. Squeeze's Greatest Hits as well as Johnny Mathis - Johnny's Greatest Hits....weeeeeeeeeeeee

On another note, a certain office mate who shall remain nameless no longer works at the unviersity. Life at work will be so much better now!!!
